CMD-IT stands alongside all Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) and grieves with them over the loss of the Atlanta, GA shooting victims that left eight people dead, most of whom were women of Asian decent.
As an organization that was established on equality, inclusion, and the celebration of diversity, we are disheartened that once again, another community of color has become victims of our nation’s long-lasting history with racism.
According to Stop AAPI Hate, a hate crime reporting center, 3,795 hate incidents were received from March 2020 to February 2021 against the AAPI community. This is a result from the ongoing and harmful stigma created around people of Asian decent and COVID-19, and has left many fearful for their families, friends, and personal safety.
We encourage all individuals, local leaders, and government to name this as a violent, racially motivated act and to work together to bring forth justice.
CMD-IT will continue creating and working on bringing positive changes that helps minority communities excel, thrive, and receive the dignity all are deserve.
The board and staff and all extended persons within CMD-IT send our deepest condolences to the families and friends who are most affected.
