The Tapia Conference Career Fair brings together students, professionals, and employers to meet, network, and interview with representatives from industry, government, academia, and nonprofits. Launching on Wednesday, September 13th from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm during the 2023 Tapia Conference, the Career Fair opens doors for diverse communities in tech and helps bridge the diversity gap in the industry, government and academia. The Career Fair is also open on Thursday, September 14 from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm and Friday, September 15 from 10:45 am – 3:00 pm.
Last year, Tapia Conference attendees cited that the career fair opportunities was one of the top reasons for attending the conference. The Career Fair continues to serve as a key conference highlight for job seekers, employers and graduate programs and serves as a launching pad for the three-day conference.
Students and Professionals Can Explore New Career Opportunities
The Career Fair creates a venue for students and professionals to explore options and take advantage of the available job growth and graduate program opportunities. Through the resources available at the Career Fair, conference participants gain invaluable knowledge, build professional contacts, and make strong impressions that could lead to fresh opportunities.
Prior to the Career Fair, the CMD-IT Student Professional Development Workshop (SPDW) takes place from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 13th. The SPDW offers undergraduate and master’s students the opportunity to receive coaching and development from industry and government professionals. It includes industry panels providing advice and answering questions about the interview process and an interactive session for professionals to provide feedback on individual resumes.
Employers Have Access to Diverse Talent in a Thoughtful Environment
Following the conclusion of the SPDW resume review sessions, attendees have the opportunity to transition to the Career Fair, thereby allowing students to showcase their skills, experience, and passion for computing in a more relaxed setting than a traditional job interview. A mutually beneficial experience, industry and academia gain direct access to the top, diverse talent eager to make connections.
“Tapia’s special because it really does drive inclusivity in the tech industry. We’ve met some fantastic talent from all over the country – all over the world really, and as we all know, an inclusive and diverse culture really drives innovation,” said Ashli White, Vice President, of Diversity Pipeline & Programs at BNY Mellon, a Tapia 2022 supporter.
For Tapia supporters, the Career Fair is a unique venue to build brand recognition and create a pathway to recruit new team members. When surveyed 84% of Tapia 2022 supporters strongly agreed that attending the Tapia Conference provided an excellent opportunity for recruiting diverse students.
